This is the very very rare Akai “Electronic Valve Instrument,” or EVI-1000, and this one happens to be in near-perfect condition.
There is one scratch on the top of the unit--clearly shown in the pics--but other than that this EVI is nigh flawless.
I bought it used on eBay a number of years ago from the original purchaser, a guy who had kept it in minty, minty condition.  I think he just had it locked away somewhere.  The cable has been plugged in a total of maybe ten times, so it has zero wear on it (see pics).  The unit itself is not damaged or compromised in any way, and it works great along with the synth unit that’s dedicated for use with it, the Akai EWV 2000.  In the “random bonus feature” department, the guy I bought it from included ANOTHER EWV 2000, but he said this extra one suffered from stuck note-ons.  I didn’t really understand how that was possible, and I also never got around to unboxing that synth, since the original one works perfectly--but I am including that EXTRA, MAYBE fully-functional EWV-2000!  It’s in even MORE MINT condition than the other one: the original wire-tie is still on the power cord, for goodness’ sake.  Also, interesting point: this “extra” EWV is serial #00010.  Don’t know how relevant that is, but there it is anyway.
Anyway, this super-rare, in near-mint-condition piece is a great opportunity if you’ve got your heart set on owning one of the original Akai Nyle Steiner-designed EVI1000’s.  This one is in near-mint-condition, and everything works great no issues. The cable, which I imagine is hard to replace, is in minty-mint condition.  The synth unit is as well.
The EVI, the cable, and both synths are all individually bubble-wrapped, packed up and ready to ship.
